Hi There
I'm Tracy, owner of and therapist at Sage Counselling Services. I strive to provide a safe, compassionate space for clients to discuss their concerns and work toward their goals. Finding a therapist you feel comfortable with can be a difficult process, so I've provided some information about my experience and education below.
All About Me
Tracy McGimpsey (she/her), MA, Registered Psychologist (AB: 6476)
I am a Registered Psychologist and skilled Addictions Therapist. I have worked in the mental health field since 2013 and provided treatment in a variety of health care settings.
My education, skill sets, and ongoing training give me the expertise to help individuals dealing substance abuse and addictions issues, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, trauma, sexual/gender orientation challenges, emotional-dysregulation (i.e. anger outbursts, rapid mood swings), boundary issues (i.e. difficulty saying “no”), communication difficulties (i.e. with partners, family members, co-workers), shame (i.e. feeling like you can never do anything right, not being ‘good enough’), identity (i.e. impostor syndrome, role and place in family/community, handling life situation changes) and self-esteem concerns.
I understand that starting therapy can be a scary thing for many people and that it often takes strength and courage to begin. I offers compassion, acceptance, a down to earth genuine approach, and humour to enable clients to find their way through many personal challenges.
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Since 2013, I have provided mental health services through Alberta Health Services, community-based clinics, and both residential treatment centres and outpatient addiction programs. I hold a Masters of Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Lethbridge, and a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Addictions Counselling from the University of Lethbridge.
I utilize Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy for Individuals and Couples (EFIT & EFT), Motivational Interviewing, and Self-Compassion Theory to support clients in addressing their concerns and achieving the change that they’re hoping for. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), and regularly use this technique when working with trauma clients. I provide a safe and comfortable space for clients to share their concerns and work toward their goals.
